A Corda - poster

Eis o poster que fiz para a curta metragem "A Corda", na qual estive recentemente envolvido.

This is a poster I made for the short film "A Corda", in which I was recently involved.

"Somos todos fingidores. Fingimos para os outros, por vezes fingindo para nós próprios primeiro. E todos somos leitores, que leem sem empatia, sem se relacionarem com as palavra escritas.

Nesta curta metragem, inspirada pelo poema "Autopsicografia" de Fernando Pessoa, racionalizamos tudo o que sentimos deixando, por isso mesmo, de sentir. Deixamos de nos entregar sem medos nem reservas, de arriscar com sinceridade. Como as crianças."

"A Corda", feita em 48 horas, foi a participação do nosso grupo no concurso "48 Shortmedia"*. Todos os grupos participantes, compostos por uma média de cinco pessoas, teriam que criar uma curta metragem (desde o guião até ao produto final), um cartaz, dez fotos promocionais e um website acerca do seu projeto.

*48 Shortmedia foi organizado pela Escola Profissional Mariana Seixas

"Wind it up" was freely inspired by "Autopsychography", a poem by Fernando Pessoa.

This shortfilm is a creative approach about the racionalization of feelings. Ultimately, one ends up not feeling at all, unable to distinguish between what is real and what is not. We become disconnected from the others, but mostly, from ourselves."

"Wind it up" (A Corda), was made in 48 hours, as our team's submission to the "48 Shortmedia"* competition. Every participanting groups, composed by an average number of five elements, had to make a shortfilm (from the script to its final form), a poster, 10 promotional photos, and a website about their project.

*48 Shortmedia was organized by Escola Profissional Mariana Seixas

Onde está o esquilo? Where's the chipmunk?

Já não pintava em grande escala há alguns anos, mas já sentia essa vontade a manifestar-se ultimamente. Comecei por pintar esta tela, com uma paisagem a preto e branco, para não abusar da sorte. Na proxima talvez use cores e figuras. 

It has been a few years since the last time I painted on a large scale. Lately I've been feeling this desire manifesting again. I started by painting this canvas with a landscape in black and white, not to tempt fate. Maybe in the next one I will apply colors and figures.

An animated gif illustration inspired by Andrew Bruce

Há algum tempo atrás fui desafiado, pelo site Fauna & Flora, a criar um trabalho inspirado pela bonita fotografia acima, da autoria do fotógrafo Andrew Bruce. O pessoal do F & F, sendo muito boa gente, ousou estimular em mim uma atitude de completa liberdade criativa. Decidi então experimentar algo que ainda não tivesse feito antes. Meti mãos à obra, com o objetivo de criar uma versão em stop-motion da foto do Andrew Bruce. Entretanto o tempo passava e os contratempos somavam-se. Acabei por abortar essa ideia. 

Some time ago I was challenged by Fauna & Flora to create a work inspired by the beautiful picture above, by the photographer Andrew Bruce. The staff of F & F, being very good people, dared to stimulate in me an attitude of complete creative freedom. Therefore I decided to try something that I hadn't done before. I started working, with the goal of creating a stop-motion version of Andrew Bruce's photo. But time passed and mishaps accumulated. I ended up aborting the idea.

Decidi regressar a terrenos que me fossem mais familiares, dando início a uma ilustração mais convencional. Mas continuava fixado na ideia de ver a raposa em movimento, o que me levou a criar uma ilustração em gif animado. Eis, então, o talentoso Andrew, repousando no meio da natureza, sendo ele desta vez quem é observado pelos animais que costuma fotografar.

I decided to return to a field that was more familiar to me, starting a more conventional illustration. But  I kept fixed on the idea of seeing the fox in motion, which led me to create an illustration in the form of an animated gif. Here is, then, the talented Andrew, resting in the middle of nature, this time being him who is observed by the animals he uses to shoot.

Stephen Malkmus - poster

Poster para o próximo concerto do Stephen Malkmus em Tel Aviv. Curiosidade: fiz este poster enquanto parcialmente daltónico (foi-me dito que esses amarelos não são todos iguais... quem diria, ein?).

Poster for the next Stephen Malkmus' show in Tel Aviv. Fun fact: this was done while partialy colorblind (I was told that those yellows are not all alike... who would have thought, eh?). 

Tortoise by Corcoise - teaser

Os Tortoise vão tocar a Tel Aviv no próximo mês.  Em breve postarei aqui o poster que estou a fazer.

Tortoise will perform in Tel Aviv next month and I'm making the poster. I will post it up here soon.

Felix Memento Mori

No caso de me tornar defunto antes da próxima noite das bruxas, aqui vai já a minha celebração.

In the case I become deceased before next Halloween, here is my celebration of it already.

Algumas imagens da evolução da ilustração "Paúis". Desenho a lápis sobre papel de aguarela, seguido pelos primeiros tons coloridos - usei acrílico, mas com as típicas técnicas de pintar a aguarela - e finalmente alguns estudos rápidos feitos no photoshop para estudar o ambiente e iluminação.

Some pics of the development of the illustration "Paúis"*. Pencil drawing on watercolor paper, then the first color touches - I used acrylics, but I applied the usual watercolor techniques - and finally some quick studies done in photoshop to decide the ambience and the lightening.
